“Brain Learning was the best for assessing my loving, wonderful, and unique little boy. I was concerned at first that they would not be able to get a true evaluation on him. He is nonverbal and is developmentally delayed. When we first arrived, we could feel the love and kindness of all the staff members. Dr. Rienzi, and every member of his staff genuinely cares about the children, they really want the best for them, and they will advise on the best way to go about it. Brain Learning opened my eyes to many things I thought I knew about my son, and now I have the tools to help him in greater ways. Brain Learning has a special place in my heart. Thank you, Brain Learning.”

What do schools and families say about our work?

“Thank you so much for today’s amazing presentation. I hope you could tell how appreciative our faculty was with the information you shared with them. They are such wonderful, dedicated educators. I wish to give them all the tools possible. Your generosity made this meaningful and powerful presentation possible. I am truly grateful. St. Charles Catholic School”

“I’m told that in the field of education, there are two kinds of people: the ones that honor and cultivate the children’s humanity and the ones that are there just to collect a paycheck. In less than an hour after meeting my son, you already knew him more than the “team” at school has ever had for almost 3 years.”

A. Mitchell

“Before I went to Brain Learning, I was having major problems with the California school system. The school my child attended was not listening to my concerns and were not responsive to my child’s needs. I felt outnumbered in IEP meetings and my child felt like he was being bullied by the teachers. When I finally got an educational advocate for my child, she referred me to Brain Learning. Since working with Brain Learning, I do not have problems as I did before with the staff of the schools. My son has had 3 assessments at Brain Learning which has made his life much easier. The assessors of Brain Learning came into my school and helped him achieve his goals. They spoke to staff on our behalf in IEP meetings. If it wasn’t for the assessments and the proactive way the assessors handled his case, we wouldn’t have gotten as far as we have now. The assessors listened to my concerns, which in turn helped out at the school. Dr. Rienzi stuck up for my son and now the schools listen to me. My son has more confidence and can now open up and communicate with his teachers. Now I don’t have the problems getting the school to listen to me and what my child needs. The knowledge and the professionalism went beyond my expectations. I learned to be a better educator for my son from what I learned throughout the assessment process with Brain Learning. They helped me understand my son’s needs. Understanding his needs gave me the ability to be more patient to his needs. As a parent of a child with special needs, I appreciate the assistance that I received from Brain Learning. I highly recommend Brain Learning to any family that needs help with their child’s education.,”

“I had initially learned about Brain Learning through a friend. She told me about her positive experience with this company for her Autistic son. It was half a year later that to my surprise, I learned that I had been recommended to have a Speech and Language IEE done through Brain Learning for my son who has ADHD. As positive as my friend had talked about Brain Learning, I was not prepared for what I personally experienced. Since the moment I was referred, they immediately followed up with me to set up the initial appointment and facilitated filing out the intake paperwork with ease. They responded to my many needs and questions quickly. Once I was set up, my first appointment was a breeze. One thing that I noticed about their office is how clean and organized it was. Since the minute you walk in, they aim to have the children in a fun and friendly environment . The waiting room itself is equipped with all sorts of games, Legos, toys. Which was perfect for my son, as he is a busy body. Once we were called to see the Speech Pathologist, I was allowed to stay in the room while the assessments were done. I found the Pathologist, Mrs. Himstreet to be very warm and welcoming. She was observative of my son’s needs, provided breaks, fidget toys, as well as rewards as needed. Even a snack! He was delighted. I could see that my son felt happy and relaxed. The second appointment was scheduled for the weekend. Which I truly appreciated, as I did not have to take time off work again. Overall, my experience was wonderful with Brain Learning and Mrs. Himstreet. Her findings provided key information that was needed to help my son access appropriate services. I feel that she went above and beyond of my expectations. She truly looks out for the well being of the child. Her caring demeanor helped put my mind at ease many times. I am truly grateful for her help. The only regret that I have, is not having the means to access everything they have to offer. I definitely recommend them to any parents in the Special Needs community.”

“Both Ryan and I want to send our sincere gratitude to you two for being present during the hour and a half long IEP meeting today, for advocating for Olivia’s needs and success, and for being supportive of us and of the district staff to ensure that Olivia gets the resources and tools that she deserves to be successful. Your professionalism, opinions, and recommendations are incredibly valuable and we really appreciate all that you have done for our family, and more specifically, for our daughter. Thank you, thank you!”

Our experience with Dr. Haytasingh was wonderful from start to finish. Having an evaluation done can feel intimidating, but the office at Brain Learning helped make everything feel much less stressful. Dr. Haytasingh took his time with the evaluation and there was never a moment where it felt like he was rushing through the tests – he really cares about his clients, and it showed. My children very obviously felt at ease with the staff, which is very important, and not something that always happened. I would definitely recommend Dr. Hatasingh and his staff at Brain Learning to anyone who may need their services, you won’t regret it!

Dr. Haytasingh’s most precious quality is that he is always learning new ways to help children and always searching to understand every child he assesses. He truly sees every child as individual and unique and tries to objectively grasp at who they are and what they may need. He has the added unique insight of a School Neuropsychologist who has expertise and experience working in the public school system which can be essential in determining how and what supports can make such a setting successful.

It was a pleasure to welcome Dr. Haytasingh and Crystal Ruse as presenters at our recent teachers’ inservice. Our faculty loved their relaxed, personal, and relevant approach to equipping us to teach “all” learners. They communicated clearly with important and interesting information and data. They also took the time to address specific questions we had with regards to students and their school/classroom needs. Together we generated practical and useful ideas for immediate implementation. I can with confidence recommend them as a presenter for your school’s faculty and for students in your school that may need some individualized assessment, attention, and redirection for school success.

My experience with brain learning, and, with Rienzi were beyond my expectations. The staff was kind and their level of professionalism was amazing. Rienzi and his team were compassionate and executed all of my daughter’s testing and assessments with attention to detail while exploring creative ways to access her current levels. They made me feel at ease throughout the process. To say I am impressed with Rienzi and his staff would be an understatement. He was extremely professional and thorough. Rienzi truly understands the depth of the importance of finding how children with special needs learn as well as making recommendations for what they need going forward as far as education and placement are concerned. Rienzi has been readily available via phone and email, and, reached out to me during this very difficult process on more than one occasion. I know that Rienzi will continue to make recommendations to the school district based on his findings that he feels are in my daughters best interest, and suggest ways to maximize her potential. I feel very fortunate to have someone who is so passionate about my daughter’s future on our team as we continue to navigate through the school system.

I will always be grateful for the help and support that Dr. Haytasingh gave to our teen-aged son and to ourselves. He was kind, empathetic and truly invested in our well-being. Not only did he give our son the necessary tests that helped pinpoint areas of need and eliminate unnecessary concern, but he also advised us on how to navigate the confusing red tape of the public school district, as parents of a high-schooler who went to a private school. He recommended excellent legal counsel that resulted in unprecedented assistance with the public school district, while my son continued to attend a private school. It resulted in an IEP and a counselor who did weekly visits to see my son on our campus. Dr. Haytasingh also came to our school to present a teacher inservice on different types of learning disabilities, to create greater understanding for our teachers. He did this free of cost, wanting only to promote awareness among the teaching professionals. A number of teachers asked for us to invite him back to continue to theme at a later time. I will always be grateful for the blessing and guidance of Dr. Haytasingh at a time when crisis and emotions were running high.

Our school district hired Dr. Haytasingh to provide an Independent Evaluation for our 15 year old son, who was repeatedly denied an IEP by our school district each time we requested it. Teachers identified our son with learning issues as early as kindergarten. Attention screenings, meetings with the school psychologist, reading tutors, and pull out programs had little to no effect on helping our son find success in school. Teachers who didn’t know how to work with our son chipped away at his self-esteem. School testing results were not interpreted correctly, and each successive school year became progressively more desperate for our son. Dr. Haytasingh was extremely patient in working with our family, tirelessly reviewed our records, and gained the trust and confidence of our son during their time together. Dr. Haytasingh helped research our son’s prenatal history, worked with his treatment team, and it was found that our son was suffering from a Microscopic Seizure Disorder in his brain. Medication allows his brain to make the necessary connections for him to be able to read and comprehend, something he’d never been able to achieve previously. For our son, this is a true miracle. Moving forward, our son finally has an IEP, and the school district is helping our son find success in school that he’s never found before. I wish I’d known about Dr Haytasingh and his good work 10 years ago.

We worked with Dr. Rienzi Haytasingh in 2010 when the newly hired and inexperienced psychologist in our school was unable to determine the causes of our son’s educational challenges. Not only did Dr. Rienzi perform a thorough educational evaluation of our son at age 9, but he also developed a special connection and rapport with him. Dr. Rienzi was able to identify our son’s strengths and weaknesses and provided several key recommendations that had been overlooked by the special education professionals in our school district. As an Independent Educational Evaluator, Dr. Rienzi attended a key IEP meeting and shared his insights with the educational team, resulting in an enhanced and more effective IEP program for our son
Tina K
This past year, our son had his triennial evaluations for his IEP. After looking at the reports and listening to professionals from the school district tell us that they could not properly assess our son and that we need to consider a school placement we felt our son would not grow and learn in, we needed to look for an independent doctor to take a look at what our son can do. We were very impressed with Dr. Haytasingh’s thorough assessment of our son. He took the time to review numerous different reports, spent the time needed to really get to know our son and then wrote an extremely detailed report on how our son can be successful and learn in his current school placement. He truly looked outside the box for our son. He even attended the IEP meeting to discuss the results of his report. He also worked really well with all school district professionals. We will use Dr. Haytasingh again and we will recommend him to others in need of a quality assessment.

We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to work with Dr. Rienzi. He is genuine, has a gift for working with children, and truly cares about the kids he works with. We consulted Dr. Rienzi after being told by my son’s charter school administrator that he was autistic and should be homeschooled (the most restrictive environment!!). Within 5 minutes of meeting Dr. Rienzi, my shy son was comfortable and happy to cooperate with the evaluation. Dr. Rienzi performed gold standard testing for autism on my son and determined this was not autism. This was contradictory to the school evaluation where they determined autism based on a couple of questionnaires that Dr. Rienzi, in his many years of experience and expertise, had never seen. He attended my son’s IEP meetings and was instrumental in qualifying my son for special education without using autism – since he doesn’t have this. He was a calm, fair and balanced advocate for my son during the very high-tension IEP meetings. We could not trust the school to do the right thing or recommend the right course of action, but we could trust Dr. Rienzi. This brought us great comfort in knowing my son was getting what he needed in his IEP to be successful. The most important thing Dr. Rienzi gave us, as parents, was HOPE. He assured us that our son’s deficiencies were things that could be learned and that he would be successful with the right interventions and supports in place. I happy to report that Dr. Rienzi was correct! A year later my son is extremely successful in our neighborhood school with a well-written IEP. He is reading, writing, has friends, is the social skills “super star” student, and has had not a single behavior issue! Thank you Dr. Rienzi for helping my son (and his parents)!! Margaret Murphy

Dear Rienzi, We want to thank you for being such a positive advocate for our son Corbin. When it was suggested that we have Corbin go through testing again we were not happy about it. We are always protective of him and very apprehensive to allow anyone to do more tests. You helped soften those feelings from the minute we met you. Right away I could tell that you were a warm and caring person. We trusted that you would do what was best for our son and you didn’t let us down. You have a special gift with these very special children. Our family is so lucky to have met you and we appreciate all that you have done and will keep doing to advocate for Corbin and many other children. Thank you for caring so much and making us feel so comfortable during this normally stressful time. Thank you, Dr. & Mrs. Randolph Barrows

Dr. Rienzi performed a neuropsychological evaluation on my son and it was more than I would have ever expected. He was thorough in his testing and provided a detailed report that outlined not only the issues and concerns with my child’s learning abilities, but also methods for improvement and how to better teach my child. Dr. Rienzi has been available and responded promptly to any and all questions that we have had throughout this process and continues to assist to ensure my child receives the teaching that he needs to improve his ability to learn. The assessment performed by Dr. Rienzi has provided continued hope that my child will be able to learn more effectively and progress moving forward. It is difficult to fully describe how much we appreciate and value the neuropsychological evaluation and Dr. Rienzi as a professional and as a person. He clearly has my child’s best interests at heart.

Mine and my son’s experience with Rienzi was extremely comforting. I wasn’t sure how my son would react as he wasn’t comfortable with people he wasn’t familiar with. Going through the IEE process was nothing what I expected. Rienzi made my son feel at home, he immediately understood his uniqueness and made him a role player in the evaluation. He took everything my son shared into consideration and even walked me through and concerned himself with my worries during the IEP meeting at school. I am thankful to have had Rienzi in my corner during this hard process for my child and for my family.

It was a true blessing to have Dr. Rienzi involved in our Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE). From our very first phone call, Dr. Rienzi took the time to listen and understand our situation. He was very accepting, but objective throughout our evaluation. He did an unbelievable job and stayed unbiased in evaluating all the information provided. We appreciate his professionalism balanced with understanding our unique family. Although, he only did our evaluation, he will have a lifetime impact on our son’s long term success in life. I would highly recommend him to my friends and family.

I was really impressed with you. The only thing I found hard at times was the communication with staff, which I am sure that the business office move definitely impacted. I would send emails to try and get answers to things, but not receive a response and would need to call to follow-up. Your knowledge and easy going, down to earth attitude, however, definitely made up for it all. You are the star of the show. I can see why you are so well respected.

Dr. Haytasingh has assessed my son several times and each time it has been an absolute pleasure. I have suspected that my son maybe be suffering from dyslexia, but the school disagreed. I’ve also been on the fence about having my son take Ritalin for his ADD/ADHD, however after being assessed by Dr. Haytasingh it was clear that having my son on the medication was helpful. My son felt at ease with Dr. Haytasingh and had no problem doing assessments with him. His reports and assessments have been very helpful and would recommend him to anyone. Cheryl M.

We are so grateful to have found Dr. Haytasingh and Brain Learning. Dr. Haytasingh is thoughtful, patient and kind, and genuinely cares about the kids he works with. He has a distinct ability to connect with a child and make them feel understood and appreciated. Our son was having difficulty in school which led to a dramatic decline in his motivation to succeed. He was initially very resistant to participating in sessions at Brain Learning, but Dr. Haytasingh was able to put our son at ease, allowing him to open up and be receptive to Dr. Haytasingh’s input. He now looks forward to seeing Dr. Haytasingh, and has a fantastic attitude about the time he spends at Brain Learning. Each person I have met while there is engaging and helpful. We know that our son will continue to benefit from our investment in this program.

I was very happy with the help and resources our family received from Dr. Haytasingh. Dr. H provided a through cognitive evaluation (IEE) on my 9 year old son. I was able to be present with my son throughout the testing and evaluation. Dr. H is so personable and quickly established a great repoire with my son. My son actually said, “Finally, mom, someone who understands me!” My son felt heard and knew he had an advocate in Dr. H. Dr. H was so helpful in our IEP process and in fighting to be sure Ben was being offered an educational plan that was suited to his specific challenges. I would highly recommend Dr. H to any parent who is needing help understanding their child’s needs and challenges and how to best go about advocating for them. Dr. H gave my husband and I so much encouragement and hope as to what our child’s future could be and helped us understand how we could support him so that he could live his best life possible. We are eternally grateful for the help Dr. H gave us at a critical time in our son’s educational journey.

I was referred to Brain Learning for psychosocial, occupational and speech IEEs. I cannot express the wonderful services that Dr. Haytasingh and his colleagues provided for my daughter. They were patient and professional, but most important is that they really invested their time in assessing my daughter to make sure that she could receive the services that would create a more nourishing academic experience. I recommend Brain Learning to other families in need of making a change in their child and family’s life.

What a difference Dr. Haytasingh’s evaluation has made for our child’s education! Let me first start out by saying how well respected he is in the education community. It seems everywhere we go, his work is recognized and extremely respected. Our child had had several tests, reviews of her abilities and her educational needs, but none had been as thorough and insightful as Dr. Haytasingh’s. It was ultimately his independent educational evaluation that assisted us in obtaining access to non public schools for our child. He has also been a wonderful resource for our child in that he gives advice for the benefit of the child, not the school, not the district, but the child. I can’t tell you how much that is appreciated when it seems that as parent’s we fight for every inch of assistance/services our child deserves, but struggles to receive. He was a godsend for us. We would highly recommend him to the struggling parent who needs assistance in explaining why their child is not successful in school and suggested resources a child will need for their future advancement. Thank you so much Dr. Haytasingh for everything!

I give Dr. Haytasingh five stars. Here is why:

My developmentally delayed daughter first saw Dr, Haytasingh in July 2017 when she was 8 years old. I reached out to Dr. Haytasingh for a psychoeducational evaluation to better understand and identify my daughters areas of delay. Her history included barely, if ever, talking before 4 years of age and even if she did, it was impossible to understand her – her tongue thrusts were symptomatic. In social settings with kids you would see parallel play with no interaction or speaking, and with adults, she hid behind me (painfully shy, sometimes in tears) and said nothing. I nicknamed her “Cellophane: because when I dropped her off at school she would literally wrap herself around my leg, emotionally break down, and cling on until peeled off. Saddest thing I had ever experienced. She could not read and math was a non-starter. Medically, my daughter was diagnosed by several experts at Rady’s Children’s Hospital as suffering from a neurological disorder NOS, extropia leading to no depth perception, selective mutism, global learning and emotional disabilities, and a lack of age appropriate social skills. She did not fall on the autism spectrum making it more difficult to find help. The medical doctors could provide no answers, the only hope was therapy understanding the therapy needed to be scoped to my daughter’s specific learning delays. That was the goal – identify my daughters strengths and weaknesses to help figure out how my daughter needed material presented in a way she could learn.

Dr. Haytasingh was very effective and direct. He understood the goal was not to tell me something I might want to hear but to objectively determine my daughter’s strengths and weaknesses and then suggest how to best approach my daughter’s unique learning needs. He told me several things that, as a parent, I did not want to hear but based on the testing with which I could not argue. After testing, it was apparent he understood my daughter’s challenges and gave me feedback that I was surprised accurately describe my daughter’s conduct, conduct that you would only know if you lived with her (or apparently could determine through testing, observation, and understanding how a child like my daughter sees the world and how her brain processes information.) I could tell my daughter was comfortable with him .

Dr. Haytasingh is not an advocate for my daughter. He calls it as he sees it. He did assist by helping my daughter’s IEP (special education) team at her school to understand my daughter’s disabilities so they could better structure an appropriate learning program for her. He offered his analysis and recommendations for their consideration – advocacy was handled by another person. His input also supplemented my daughter’s private education team’s expertise to build her reading, literacy, comprehension, math and social thinking programs. After working with the therapy team, my daughter is now a self-assured, confident chatterbox. Tongue thrusts are gone and she speaks clearly with a mature vocabulary. She learned so much from social thinking on how to handle difficult emotional situations, you would be surprised at the before vs. after differences. She now reads at the 2.5 grade level, comprehends at the 3rd grade level, and is socially active and accepted in her class – I wish I could network like her. Math – eh, a work in progress.

While my daughter gets credit for her hard work and dedication; Dr. Haytasingh and the therapy team gets the credit for trying different approaches to find ones that work and that help build a learning foundation for my daughter. I hear often from friends, teachers and her IEP staff, and family regarding how incredible my daughter is doing and how far she has come. Without Dr. Haytasingh and the therapy team, my daughter’s future looked bleak. Now we will see how far she can go!”

Dear Dr. Rienzi,

Thank you so much for today’s amazing presentation. I hope you could tell how appreciative our faculty was with the information you shared with them. They are such wonderful, dedicated educators. I wish to give them all the tools possible. Your generosity made this meaningful and powerful presentation possible. I am truly grateful. St. Charles Catholic School

Catholic School Principal
Dr. Rienzi Haytasingh and Brain Learning has made a positive impact on my son’s educational experience, which carries over into his overall daily life. With a primary eligibility of autism on his IEP, the school district and school staff often dismissed the academic difficulties my son had as being solely attributed to autism behaviors. Communication issues prevented my son from explaining to teachers what his struggles were. I was frequently told that my son was avoiding tasks and simply being noncompliant as a part of his autism diagnosis. I was even asked to give up on teaching him foundational reading skills and focus on functional skills when he was only 8 years old. Many times he’d completely meltdown and have self injurious behaviors as a result of the frustrations he had with not being heard or understood. His self esteem was severely affected as he frequently received corrective feedback and punishments for his inability to do or finish school work, which he was not able to control. He asked why he couldn’t spell or read and made statements about letters moving or “being switched”, which were red flags to me that he may have learning disabilities. My concerns were brought to the district and although they performed tests, their evaluations were incomplete. The school and case manger downplayed my son’s struggles and completely dismissed any learning disabilities. Again, my son and his autism were to blame for the lack of progress. I disagreed with the district assessment results and exercised my right to request independent educational evaluations (IEEs) at public expense, which included a full neuropsychological evaluation. With that request granted, I asked Dr. Haytasingh to thoroughly test my son and it was discovered he is absolutely capable of learning, but he has profound dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia. Dr. Haytasingh and his staff took into consideration my son’s severe language deficits and other co-morbid conditions. Diagnostic overshadowing (when symptoms are attributed to the most prominent disability) by the district and school staff prevented my child from having his specific learning disabilities (SLDs) properly identified and created obstacles in accessing his education. My son has started to read with the help of a prescriptive reading program in a more appropriate placement as a result of Dr Haytasingh’s contribution to his IEP. Brain Learning also provided me and my son an optimistic outlook towards his future. Dr. Haytasingh has a strong knowledge of his profession and has been able to equip me with tools that are tailored to my son’s needs and goals. More importantly, my son is now happier at school and proud to share his academic accomplishments. I highly recommend Brain Learning and Dr. Haytasingh!

Crystal Ruse, M. Ed., BCBA is not only extremely knowledgeable and intelligent, but she also cares sincerely about the well-being of her clients. After her initial data intake, Crystal was open to discussing the fine points with me as a parent and made sure we were on the same page. Crystal was also a great asset during my son’s IEP meeting, by advocating assertively while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor. I would not hesitate to use her services again in the future.

want to take this time to make a recommendation on  Brain Learning. Specifically towards Christy Himestreet and Crystal Ruse. My son went through a very terrible time through the district and several people failed him along the way. I was recommended brain learning through several people, and I’m glad I went with them. Christy went above and beyond to not only look to my son’s best interest, but to look beyond the walls and things that the school districts therapist failed to look at when my son desperately needed the help. Christy’s compassion, genuine personality, and her professionalism was beyond my expectations. I felt lost, alone and as if no one was on my son’s side. And when brain learning started working with my son, it opened up the doors for my son to finally receive the help and support that was needed desperately. Because of Christy’s knowledge and work ethic, my son was able to be placed with the support that he needed. In addition to her findings, she was able to collaborate with other therapist and doctors that were also able to help build my son an incredible plan. Some kids like mine who have ADHD, often get left behind because they don’t fall within the scope of the district or the state standards. It takes a very knowledgeable and understanding beyond so much to find that children  like my son do in fact need support although their disabilities seem invisible. I also worked with Crystal, she had the same genuine, professional, passion for helping children like my son. this is not just a job, this is something they were made to do, and I am very appreciative for them coming to help my son. Thank you.

Hello Christy and Team,

I have been in a bit of mourning about the experience we had with Daphne’s school. I harbored quite a bit of hard feelings about the events that led us to Brain Learning, so it was difficult to tease out the good from the bad- the beauty of what I experienced the moment I walked into the Brain Learning office, from the pain of leaving my daughter’s only school, and my entire community of parents, and my 18 year career as a school librarian. So much of my identity, time, and effort had been invested in the public school model, that I hurt for myself and my child like we’d been left by her father. The cut was that deep.
Christy was the  first  provider in this process that approached my daughter through a strengths based perspective. Everyone prior pointed out all of my child’s deficits, which were numerous. I was sort of beaten down. Battling the school, making appointment after expensive appointment with bad after worse news.
And then, I walked into Brain Learning’s beautifully welcoming office, with artwork on the walls, and a warm atmosphere that felt like a balm for my soul. I immediately felt at ease. Christy tested our child, thoroughly and quickly. She put her at ease right away. Christy pointed out the ways that even her deficits, could be used as strengths. and that my child even possessed strengths at all, which I knew deep inside, but had lost sight of in the all of the testing. Christy’s observation of my child at school was enlightening, and I learned more about the child my daughter was when I wasn’t the classroom volunteer. Her final report was strong, and solidly written- simply air tight. The assessment of my daughter was balanced, truthfully presented, and in line with her true abilities and needs, which were being obfuscated by the school. I wouldn’t wish the IEP/IEE process on my worst enemy. However, if you’re already in the thick of it, this is the best professional to have on your team.
