Project Description
Developmental Reading Disorder (Dyslexia)
Developmental Reading Disorder (Dyslexia): Did you know that there are 3 subtypes of Dyslexia? Did you know that finding out which type your child has, will increase the chances of successfully treating the condition? Just simply slapping a generic reading treatment on a child who is struggling with reading does not ensure that the student will benefit and “catch-up.” At Brain Learning we directly observe and measure your child’s reading strengths and weaknesses. This information provide explicit recommendations for remediation (e.g., duration, intensity, and programing). Just simply saying that your child needs special education services for reading isn’t enough. We believe the type of service and treatment should be spelled out. Many times this is the case, but not always. We believe that specific baselines to reading should be captured as well as “how the child” approaches reading tasks.
How to sight it:
- Trouble rhyming and separating sounds that make up spoken words.
- Difficulty determining the meaning (idea content) of a simple sentence
- Difficulty learning to recognize written words
- Difficulty rhyming
What we can do to help: Our assessments use both qualitative and quantitative methods to pinpointing the area of need, as well as your child’s innate compensatory strategies. Dyslexia is like many other conditions in that there is a spectrum of severity. While some children can get intense instruction and remediation, others will never overcome their neurological differences with reading, but will need ways to “get around” the disability.
