Functional Behavioral Assessment

A Functional Behavioral Assessment is considered a problem-solving process for addressing a the behavior that is interfering with learning. This type of assessment relies on a variety of techniques and strategies to identify the function of the specific behavior.  Through interviews, observations, and extensive data collection, hypothesis are made about the behavior. The process looks beyond the behavior itself to understand why it is occurring.  Once the hypothesis is made, interventions are recommended to the IEP team so that a plan can be developed to reduce and replace the behavior.
