Project Description

Traumatic Brain Injuries

Traumatic Brain Injuries: Students who have sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) return to the school setting with a range of cognitive, psychosocial, and physical deficits that can significantly affect their academic functioning. Successful educational reintegration for students with TBI requires careful assessment of each child’s unique needs and abilities and the selection of classroom interventions designed to meet those needs. Not every child with a TBI is going to demonstrate obvious differences in learning, attention, and emotional functioning. Often times the differences are subtle but affect that student’s’ progression.

What we can do to help: Each year we assess a wide range of  children and adolescents who have experienced a TBI. We know how to make sure all aspects of the students strengths and weaknesses are considered in the learning environment and in the community. It’s not enough to have a jargon filled report that no one can understand, only to find that the clinician is recommending special education. We believe that clearly spelling out recommendations is an essential part of the report, and possibly the most important part.
